Our hospitality packages, available on selected terminals have been designed specifically to assist businesses operating in the accommodation and hospitality sectors. They provide additional features like pre authorisations, open transactions, tipping, delayed charges and detailed transaction reports giving you greater control and flexibility with your card payments.
You can find more details on the features of our hospitality packages below.
Pre-Authorisation
A pre-authorisation is when you obtain an authorisation on a credit card for a set amount without intending to process the transaction immediately. The authorisation validates the credit card and ensures that the cardholder has sufficient available credit to pay for the service you are performing.
A hotel might perform a pre-authorisation when a guest checks-in. An authorisation number is generated and stored electronically in the terminal. The cardholder's available credit is reduced by the pre-authorisation amount. At check out the pre-auth transaction is completed using the authorisation number. A pre-authorisation reduces the possibility of a transaction being declined due to unavailable funds.
Open Transaction
The 'open transaction' function is specifically tailored to the hospitality industry. It is similar to a pre-authorisation, however the transaction amount is not specified when the pre-authorisation is made. It is commonly used by hotels at check-in to cover mini bar and laundry costs.
When your customer checks out, you key in the open transaction reference number which retrieves the card details so you can process the sale. The cardholder does not have to present the card again.
Adding Additional Charges
The additional charges function is again specifically tailored to the hospitality industry. It allows you add further charges to a cardholder's account after a service has been preformed. An example is after check-out and an open transaction has been completed, you may need to add extra charges for food or beverages consumed.
Tipping
The tipping function in our hospitality packages allow customers to add a tip on top of their original transaction amount if they feel they have received great service. Tips after a meal are common in North America, the UK and Europe and are becoming more widespread in New Zealand particularly in business operating in tourism hot spots.
Detailed Transaction Reports
With the detailed transaction reports funtionality your business has access to a range of detailed reporting including information on open transactions, shift totals, refunds and settlement receipts.
